What Did You Do Yesterday?

It's the summer vacation.  My friends and I are on holiday, so we don't have to go to school.  Let's take a look at what my friends did yesterday.  Mark went to the swimming pool yesterday.  He went with his father and his sister, Cathy.  He can swim but his sister cannot.  She was afraid to get into the water.  So Mark's father helped her.  Mark didn't need help.  He swam like a fish, round and round in the pool.  Can you swim? (p2)

This is Donna.  She is my neighbor.  She lives in the big house next to mine.  Donna was not happy yesterday afternoon.  She hurt her arm on the slide at the park.  The nurse took an X-ray.  She fell off the slide at the park.  Ouch!  But Donna is a big girl.  She didn't even cry.  Her mother was very proud of her.  Be careful next time, Donna. (p4)

Donna's brother Martin didn't go to the hospital.  He went to the train station to meet his Uncle Alan.  Uncle Alan lives in the big city.  He came to visit Donna and Martin.  Martin likes his uncle, because he always brings gifts for them.  He's also very nice.  Do you have a favorite uncle or aunt? (p6)

This is my classmate, John.  He sits next to me in English class.  John went to the shops yesterday.  First he went to the bookstore.  Then he went to the post office.  He saw his friend Steve.  John likes to read comic books at the bookstore.  He sometimes buys something nice to eat at the bakery, but he didn't buy anything yesterday, because he didn't have any money.  His friend Steve was mailing a letter to his pen pal in Korea. (p8)

Kate went to the zoo with her friend Rachel yesterday.  They are both ten years old, and they like to do everything together.  There are many animals in the zoo.  They saw lions, elephants, koalas, and monkey.  Kate gave a banana to the monkey.  The monkey was very happy.  He ate the banana and threw the banana peel on the ground.  Watch out!  Don't slip on the peel.  What a naughty monkey!  (p10)

This is Maria.  She's the smartest girl in my class at school.  Maria didn't go to the zoo yesterday, she went to the library.  She likes to read.  She took home five books!  She borrowed storybooks to read.  Do you think she can finish reading all those books in a week? (p.12)

Tom and Rob are brothers.  They love baseball.  They are on our school's baseball team.  Tom and Rob went to a baseball game at the ballpark yesterday.  The game was exciting.  They ate hamburgers.  They had fun!  Their team won the game 7 to 5.  The boys were so happy.  They sang songs all the way home. (p.14)

This is my sister Clare.  She had a bad day.  Clare didn't go to the baseball game.  She was sick.  She was at home in bed all day yesterday.  Poor Clare!  It's not nice to be sick on your vacation.  I hope she gets better soon. (p16)

This is my friend Mike.  Mike was at a restaurant with is family yesterday.  It was his birthday.  He had a very happy day.  He had a big cake, and a lot of presents and cards.  What a lucky boy!  I gave him the biggest present, but I cannot tell you what it was.  That's a secret.  Happy Birthday, Mike! (p18)

Amy was at the beach with her grandparents.  It was a hot and sunny day.  Amy's grandparents live near the sea, so Amy likes to visit them and go to the beach.  What a lucky girl!  They ate ice cream and drank soda.  They made sandcastles.  They played in the sea.  Do you like to go to the beach? (p20)

Amy's mother and father weren't at the beach yesterday.  They were not as lucky as Amy.  They went to work.  Her mother was at work in the hospital.  She is a doctor.  Her father went to the office.  He is a businessman.  I'm happy to be a student.  We have nice long vacations and we don't have to go to work!  How about you?  What did you do yesterday? (p22)
